Circle Theatre and Grand Rapids Community College, along with the Grand Rapids Community College Alumni Relations are proud to announce an inaugural collaborative benefit-fundraiser entitled ‘A Cool Yule.’ All proceeds will be split between Circle Theatre and Grand Rapids Community College Alumni Relations.
‘A Cool Yule’ will include a production of the David Sedaris holiday favorite, Santaland Diaries, performed by Ryan Jarosch. Ryan is a Grand Rapids Community College Theater alumnus who works extensively in Chicago. Jarosch was born to play a sarcastic 6’ 1” Macy’s elf. Fellow GRCC Theater alumnus and Circle Theatre employee Chris Grooms directs the production.
‘A Cool Yule’ will be rounded out with a holiday cabaret (with a Motown flare) featuring Circle Theatre favorite Darion Murchinson, accompanied by veteran music director Wright McCargar. Murchinson was recently featured in the Circle Theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors. McCargar recently served as music director for the Circle Theatre production of Rent.
GRCC’s portion of the proceeds will be donated to the GRCC Alumni Scholarship. The Alumni Scholarship is awarded to six GRCC students who are dependents of an alumnus. The award is $3,000 for the school year, which is one of the largest awards given by GRCC.
Performances are December 17 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Spectrum Theater, 160 Fountain Street NE. Ticket prices are $30 for the general public, $20 for GRCC Students (with valid ID). A complimentary dessert and wine reception will be held in the theater lobby following each performance. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Spectrum Theater Box Office at 616-234-3946 or visiting www.grcc.edu/theater or www.circletheatre.org . Spectrum Theater Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 1pm to 5pm.
