Auditions for “RUST” – Next Weekend!

Looking to get involved in theatre? Actors’ Theatre has a fantastic season lined up! Our first show of the 2011-2012 season auditions at the end of July.

Description: In October 2008, General Motors announced it would shutter the 75 year- old stamping plant on 36th Street in Wyoming, Michigan. Based on interviews of those affected by the close of the plant, the “GM gypsies”, tool and die third shifters, even the “ax men”, RUST explores what happens to the people who make things…when we stop making things.  (Learn more about RUST on the Actors’ Theatre website.)

Two Nights Left for Living On The Edge “Secrets and Lies”!

There are just two nights left to catch Actors’ Theatre’s annual 10 minute play festival, Living on the Edge. Our theme this year is “Secrets and Lies.”  Order your tickets ASAP, performances are held in Spectrum Theatre’s black box and seating is very limited.  Tickets are just $10!

Jones inadvertently starts a fashion revolution. Suddenly he is a part of the mass media lie machine, at the mercy of those who want to misconstrue his deeds and thoughts to further their own ends. Ultimately, Jones must choose whether to live a lie and enjoy the limelight or shed his beloved fashion accessories and get back to work.

The Mesmerist by G.M. Bud Thompson
Performing at a corporate convention, Dio The Mesmerist hypnotizes three subjects and guides them on a journey into imagination and memory…with some very, very unexpected results!

Cupid’s Beau by Barbara Lindsay
A random meeting of two strangers in a coffee house sizzles with sexual possibility and attraction – or does it?
Directed by Elizabeth Sulkowski

Porch Revival by Mark Rigney
Two aging, habit-bound sisters experience their own personal revivals on the morning after attending a disastrous tent revival.
Directed by Jonathan Clausen

“HONK!” at Circle Theatre Opens Tonight

Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Ugly Duckling”, Honk! tells the story of an odd looking baby duck, Ugly, and his quest to find his mother. Soon after Ugly is born, he is seduced away by a wily Cat who wants to eat Ugly for dinner.

Eventually, Ugly manages to escape but has no idea how to r eturn home. Along his way, he encounters a beautiful swan, Penny, tangled in a fishing line. After saving her, the two birds fall in love. However, she must return to her flock and fly south for the winter.

Eventually, Ugly’s mother finds him frozen in snow. Luckily, her warm tears manage to thaw him out and he comes back to life as a handsome swan! Soon, Ugly is reunited with Penny and two swans decide to live the rest of their days in the same pond as Ugly’s loyal mother.

Actors’ Theatre Presents: Living on the Edge VIII: Secrets and Lies!

Next week marks the eighth installment of Actors’ Theatre’s annual 10 minute play festival, Living on the Edge. The theme this year that writers were asked to respond to was “Secrets and Lies.”  We are excited this year to present the following fun and adventurous new works, selected for production:

“Shoot Faster, Dear Brother, I’m Dying!” July 14-16

Two hours of perfect parody,” and “A remarkable feat – worthy of Mark Twain,” is what Lawrence Bommer, theatre critic for the Chicago Reader and the ChicagoTheatreBlog called the play! After an impressively reviewed run at the Apollo Theater Studio in Chicago, IL in the summer of 2010 – Joe Anderson and Demian Krentz, a comedic duo of award-winning filmmakers/writers, have announced they are bringing the show to Grand Rapids’ Dog Story Theater in July.
